Obviously you need a steady hand as the laser beam is as thin as a needle. One click switches the rangefinder on and the second click measures the distance. To use in Pintracker mode make sure the picture of a flag is showing through the lens. To get to that position switch it on and click the Mode button it will stay at that setting until you change it. If you want to use it in scan mode which means the readout changes as you move it around the target switch off Pintracker by clicking the MODE button and keep your finger pressing the ON Button. To change from metres to yards switch it on and hold the MODE button down for 3 seconds. That is all there is to it. I use one for many of my golf shots. Particularly for approach shots to the flag. Also to avoid hazards and to measure and make note of how far I typically hit the ball with each club when practising on the driving range. That means I can usually hit my approach shot near the flag and can frequently get down in 1 putt. It is necessary to install a CR2 Lithium Battery which is normally good for about 5000 operations. It automatically switches off after 10 seconds to conserve the battery. They are not expensive.
