PING "KARSTEN CO" ANSER PUTTER 85029 **RARE** 2ND GENERATION

DOUBLE CLICK THE PICTURE AND IT SUPER SIZES...Thanks for looking...Final listing for this item. I even received emails from a collector stating that the beautiful patina that these putters take years to getis "cancer"...and that it should be polished off....INSANE.....DO NOT POLISH YOUR COLLECTIBLE PING PUTTER. Polishinglowers the value, destroys the aged look, and can actually change the overall weight of the putter head. There is no value to arefinished ping putter. They are refinished because they were low quality, dinged , and dented. A collectible ping putter was neverpolished or shiny....even when it was new.   I am not going to educate anyone at this point. I just don't have the time. But it looks like I desperately need to point out afew facts.    The following info is from Dalton R Daves (Pongman) 1996 book "Putters of Distinction".         My K-Co Anser putter (the one in this auction) is one of the most popular and favorite among top professionals and is a 1968 genuine original made from the same moldas the  famed Scottsdale Anser putter with the only difference being the address writing in the cavity changed when the company moved. . He also states,  The head of this putter is heavier than newer models.The softness of the material used back then is one that is not duplicated today. In chapter 9 page 11 he states "It is important to leave theseheads tarnished, do not clean or sandblast the head, also do not add sight lines". Both take away from the collectability.      The Karsten CO Anser was available in the flat sole and the rocker sole as I have seen both.   This brings us to..."what is a Dale Head". Today most refer to all these older Anser putters as "Dale Heads"...This is where the most confusion exists. If the heel and toe lobes are sloping people are calling them Dale Heads. This is inaccurate. Actually the Dale Head Anser is a MODEL ofputter starting when the cavity read, Karsten MFG CORP 85029....no longer Karsten CO 85029...They were now incorporated. The mold did change.   The name Dale Head was given to this putter by K.W. Murray, a well known collector and authority on golf memorabilia.  The Dale Head is lighter than the K-CoAnser and is usually found with the soft shaft. There is no "Made In USA" on the top edge of these true Dale Head putters.    Karsten CO. changed its name and incorporated in 1967-8 to Karsten MFG CORP.  Therefore my K-Co Anser putter in this auction is frombefore 1967-8. (There is some inconsistency on these dates.)    Finally, The Scottsdale Anser, the K-Co Anser, and the  Dale Head Anser are all models/styles/variations of the Anser putter. All these putters are not Dale Heads...somecall all of them Dale Heads because all do have the sloping heel and toe lobes.        Last thought......it gets more confusing also because some of these putters have been reissued...you have to know how to tell the difference.    Hope that helps.....Like I said...info is from the book "Putters of Distinction" Dalton R. Daves 1996.Here are a couple of recent examples of what happens when you don't know what you are doing.   Check completed auctions item number  281039073131 from a week or two ago. Look at the wonderful description.In minty condition this is a $100 putter that someone paid $299 for. WOW!    Then go check auction 181933315440...the seller did not know what he had and sold a $350 Anser putter for $117 oops.He probably thinks he did a good thing because he got a lot of bids.Here is what I have for sale today...It is higher end than most buyers here on ebay would be interested in. I just thought I would start here.Super Rare 2nd Generation Anser Putter( a couple years earlier the Scottsdale was first). This is the real thing(same mold as Scottsdale) in  excellent 8/10 condition. The head is stunning...grip is worn...shaft has light pitting. These are from 1968ish andjust do not exist in this condition. You would have to find a new one to get better than this.  For those that don't know...these are made from the Scottsdale mold and are the first putters madeafter the company moved to Phoenix 85029. From here on there were several changes evolving from Karsten CO.....to....Karsten Mfg. Company in just a few short years...the mold changedand the cavity stamping changed as mass production was in full swing. This putter for sale is the same mold as the famous Scottsdale Anser putter.   For you collectors out there...this putter is all original...it has the older version of the traction action grip(No Stars on Lower End)...these were hand trimmed and either taped for a finished look or....a heat shrink plastic collar was installed.     This is an original and there are not many around anymore in this condition. It does need a grip.     Up for sale is a very rare completely original PING,  KARSTEN CO ROCKER SOLE ANSER PUTTER . This is a 2nd generation Ping Anser putter, the first Anser putter made when the company changed its name from Ping Golf Clubs to Karsten Company hence "Karsten CO".  This putter has the same head shape as the  rare Scottsdale Anser and feels as heavy or heavier at address, very awesome head weight. This is the first Anser putter to actually have the "Ping Anser" patent number appear on it. The original Scottsdale's which were made in 1967 and earlier didn't have the pat number 207,227 as it was not issued until 1968 which is when the Karsten Co Anser's were being produced. This putter is in great to excellent shape, a solid 8-9/10 condition. Some bag chatter but not much, patina is awesome. Its the  9 1/4" first step. It has original steel shaft in nice condition with some pitting. It has no shaftband sticker present(this is correct for the year). You can't appreciate the deep dark patina until you hold it in your hand. Putter was purchased from a collector and has been in my collection for a number of years. The putter is 35" long. The putter has original Pro Only grip(should be replaced).. Great putter to put on the course and game it. I hope you can appreciate not only this putter but this rare putter in this excellent condition. For you Professionals out there don't miss out on this one.     Thanks for looking...hope everyone learned something....My putter is  the same grind as the original Scottsdale Anser, it is heavy(NOT a Dale Head which is lighter), and is in beautiful condition. It is that simple. Try and find another one!Just for the record....This Scottsdale grind putter is the original Karsten CO. putter....It is the most sought after Karsten Co. putter....The Dale Heads were made in the following years and are lighter in weight. Many Dale Heads are readily available. Dale Heads say Karsten MFG CORP in the cavity without the Made in USA on the top edge.     If your a collector buy an average condition original Scottsdale putter and hang it on the wall.
