Leather stovepipe vintage golf bag - hickory shaft era

Description

This auction is for a vintage leather golf bag of the stovepipe design (single round chamber) as were popular in the hickory shaft days of golf. The bag is 33” tall with a 4.25” opening for the clubs with a small strap in the opening to allow some of the clubs to be separated from the others (woods or putter, etc). There is a metal label marked: The George Lawrence Co. Established 1857 Portland, Oregon This marking is also embossed in the leather along with 90 and 4 1/2 embossed alongside.  Don’t know what the 90 stands for. The bag is overall in pretty good condition for the age.  There is cracking in a few areas (see photos).  The cracking does not extend through the leather.   The shoulder strap and ball pocket cover are newer additions that are starting to blend in well. Also included is a folding bag support to keep the bag sides off wet grass (see photos).  This support easily fits in the bag along with several clubs.  For two summers I played with this bag and the support works well to protect the old leather. The bag has great character and would work well for either play or display. Please see my other hickory shaft era golf offerings. The bag will be shipped in a box measuring 38”x9”x9” (triangular) and weighing approx 7 lbs
